The Celebrating Havyaka:
We are a Hindu Brahmin subsect primarily from Karnataka and northern Kerala. Most Havyakas trace their immediate ancestry to either Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada or districts of Karnataka and Kasargode in Kerala. The word 'Havyaka' is derived from 'Havyaga' or 'Haveega' which means 'the one who performs Havana (Havya) and Homa (Gavya)', since many of us perform the royal rituals and related functions of the administration.
